We asked ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Mode 10 questions future homeowners ask, from “Top custom home builders in Texas” to “Which custom home builders in the US are best for building on my own lot on a mid-range budget?”. They named 106 builders, 58 once. The most-named appeared in 14 of 44 answers.

How we ran the research
10 unbranded questions a future homeowner would ask: who to hire in the US and in Texas, building on your own land, a local custom builder vs a national builder, cost per square foot, luxury, energy-efficient modern homes, a mid-range budget and reviews.
Each question was run once per engine in the Glasa product through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Mode, market set to United States, on 28 October 2026 (12:15–13:14 UTC); 29 answers that timed out in the product's queue were re-queued and collected the same day.
50 of 50 answers were collected. Firm mentions were extracted from the answer texts by Glasa's research script and merged by name; counts are answers mentioning a firm, not occurrences. Associations, awards, directories and review sites were removed with exclusion lists.
Sources are the URLs each engine cited in its answer, grouped by domain. A firm counts only when it is named in the answer's own text; titles of cited pages (reference lists and inline citation captions) do not count.
One run on one day. AI answers change between runs, accounts and locations, so treat the counts as a snapshot, not a ranking of builder quality. Being named by AI says nothing about a builder's licence, prices, schedule or build quality. Mentions were identified by Glasa's research script from the answer texts; small differences in spelling or abbreviation can shift a count by one or two.
